Zenith Data System SupersPORT
How much nostalgia and how many memories in using this machine. It was my first ever computer, I was 22, a bit late to start, but the important thing is to start.
A compact, extremely elegant, robust, heavy machine.
The lines are modern and dynamic, the screen bright and very clear to read, the keyboard precise and very comfortable. The tiny hard disk seen with today's eyes, huge back then (20 MB!!!), is rather slow in reading and writing, but it is a tireless mule, curiously it chirps softly when it reads and writes and hums modestly during rotation, and during the long nights of studying DOS and BASIC he kept me company with this very strange and sweet peep.
The machine was born with DOS 3.31, later replaced by DOS 5.0.
Both the disk and the floppy are those of a normal PC, without any type or attempt at miniaturization.
The keyboard is sturdy and heavy, very solid and compact.
The monochrome monitor is a show, large and bright, equipped with two adjustment sliders for brightness and contrast. A double hinge hooks it to the body, this allows for considerable mobility. There are sturdy suspension springs to cushion the screen itself.
The battery is gigantic, it is made in the shape of a bridge, so as to be able to access the doors, but you have to mount it only after opening the hatch, if you mount it with the hatch closed, it remains locked. The electrical hookup is achieved by inserting the power supply, the same hook for connecting the power supply is replicated on the back of the battery. In this way it is possible to charge the battery by itself, detached from the computer.
All internal components are grounded with cables screwed to the case.
